Personal Explanations

At 2.37 pm yesterday in the Senate, one-time TWU leader Senator Sterle alleged that the current negotiations for transfer of some Perth airport land for the purpose of extension of the Guildford cemetery had been delayed because the land ‘contains a track used by the Liberal member for O’Connor to train his horses’. Some considerable years ago I had permission to exercise horses on airport land firebreaks situated outside the fenced airport perimeter, after providing evidence of appropriate insurance to indemnify the airport authorities. I have not visited the area for approximately five years, since I personally ceased riding racehorses for fear I might have become a permanent resident of the adjoining cemetery. Nor has the area been used by my horses under my care. Senator Sterle could have established this fact with one simple phone call.
