to move:
That the House:
- (1)
- notes that in a world of great wealth, hundreds of millions of people experience terrible poverty and that:
- (a)
- more than 800 million people are malnourished;
- (b)
- 30,000 children die every day from preventable disease;
- (c)
- 500 women die every day from treatable pregnancy-related complications; and
- (d)
- more than one billion people live on less than one dollar per day; and further,
- (2)
- believes that Australia should make a greater commitment to the achievable targets set out in the Millennium Development Goals in an attempt to eliminate world poverty. (Notice given 20 June 2007.)
