Diabetes

Mr Speaker, on indulgence: I want to associate the opposition with the comments of the Minister for Health and Ageing. The government is doing very good work in relation to type 1 diabetes in particular and it builds on the work that the member for Warringah as the then health minister did when in government. It is a wonderful cause to help people who are in great need. There are about 128,000 young Australians with type 1 diabetes and about 709,000 Australians with type 2 diabetes. It is certainly deserving of a bipartisan approach. I commend all those members of the House who have been associated with this, in particular the member for Pearce. It is a wonderful cause that we should all support.
