Asylum Seekers

My question is to the Minister for Home Affairs. I refer the minister to the fact that, since the introduction of the assessment freeze for Afghan and Sri Lankan asylum seekers on 9 April, 31 boats and 1,418 people have arrived. Given that boats are arriving at the rate of more than three a week and people at the rate of more than 630 a month since this decision was taken—an increase of more than 200 per cent on last year—does the minister stand by the government’s budget forecast of a 60 per cent reduction in boat arrivals in the next financial year?
