to move:
That this House:
- (1)
- acknowledges the significant incidence of autism spectrum disorder in our community;
- (2)
- seeks to ensure that those affected by autism spectrum disorder are aware of the educational and other opportunities including early intervention strategies available which encourage them to achieve their best;
- (3)
- notes the Government’s early intervention program, Helping Children with Autism, which has provided over 10 000 children under seven years of age with access to early intervention support services;
- (4)
- encourages the Government to maintain its dialogue with:
- (a)
- medical, educational and other autism professionals to hear their views on the most effective methods of support for people with autism; and
- (b)
- those affected by autism spectrum disorder, their families and carers to achieve better educational and health outcomes; and
- (5)
- calls on the Victorian Government to give a firm guarantee that stage 2 of the Eastern Autistic School will proceed and that it will not back away from such an important school rebuilding program.
