I rise today to congratulate the Treasurer and Deputy Prime Minister first and foremost for his excellent stewardship of the Australian economy but in particular for his recognition by Euromoney magazine as international Finance Minister of the Year. Determined by leading finance and banking experts, this award is a well-deserved honour recognising the Treasurer's swift and decisive action over the past four years to ensure the Australian people are safeguarded from the worst impacts of the global financial crisis.
