There is absolutely no difference between the government amendment and the amendment moved by the opposition yesterday. The budget is the most seminal document a government produces, outlining its priorities for the next 12 months. When you are in government and you cannot keep your budget alive for six weeks, you have forfeited the right to govern—and this is the second time today we have seen a minister scurrying in here to backtrack on their budget measures.
