It is time to fix and upgrade the M1 between my community on the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The Turnbull government has $1 billion on the table to fix this critical stretch of road. We have a $1 billion congestion-busting plan for the M1 to get people home sooner and more safely. The Queensland state Labor government is stalling. Can you believe that? They've spent years complaining that the federal government wasn't fixing their problems, and here we are, putting $1 billion on the table right now for a 50-50 matching, which we've done for 20 years through the last seven funding regimes. I call on the Queensland state Labor government to work with us. Show us that you are as serious as we are about getting citizens home sooner and more safely.
My community deserves better than this. For too long, this critical stretch of road has been neglected, and now we've put $1 billion on the table to complete it. The whole projected would be completed. Having been started by Borbidge, it will be finished now by the Turnbull government. I simply say to the Queensland state Labor government: stop vacillating; come and join us to fix the problem. We've committed to fixing it. Queensland state Labor, please come and commit with us. Why aren't you listening to Queenslanders? It is the single biggest issue of the northern Gold Coast and the surrounds. Join us on fixing the M1. There are a billion congestion-busting dollars on the table. Come and join us.
