I thank the member for Warringah for her contribution to the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility Amendment (Miscellaneous Measures) Bill 2023. The Australian government does not intend to direct NAIF to prioritise or exclude any particular sector. The NAIF has an independent board, which is responsible for making all investment decisions in accordance with the act and the investment mandate.

As I said in December 2022, I provided the government's statement of expectations to the facility, which communicated the government's expectation that it would provide its full support in ensuring the goal of achieving net zero is prioritised in delivering all financial assistance. The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility has already supported multiple renewable energy projects, including critical minerals and resources projects, which provide material components for renewable technologies.
