Mr Speaker, my question is to the Minister for Finance and Deregulation, both in his own capacity and as representative of the Special Minister of State in the House of Representatives. I refer to the Prime Minister’s failure to answer my previous question. I ask the Minister for Finance: does the Prime Minister have use of a taxpayer funded electorate vehicle in his electorate of Griffith, or has he instead opted to take the $19,000 increase in his salary in lieu?
Kevin Rudd (Griffith, Australian Labor Party, Prime Minister) Share this | Link to this | Hansard source
Mr Speaker, I will take the question that the honourable member has asked. My office advises that I do not claim money in lieu of a vehicle. I have an electorate car. It is a Toyota Prius. It is in Canberra, as per the entitlement, because that is where I happen to live. The opposition know that because they have asked questions on notice about it. Furthermore, in terms of the vehicle supplied by Mr Grant, it is a ute for the purposes of mobile offices. It has on the side of it ‘Kevin Rudd’s mobile office’ and I have used it for quite a number of years.
