As we focus on the AFL final season, I want to say congratulations to the Greater Western Sydney Giants on their first year. The Giants had two victories this year over Gold Coast Suns and Port Adelaide and a couple of close ones in between. I want to particularly congratulate GWS Giants coach, Kevin Sheedy, on being the first person ever to reach a combined 1,000 games as a coach and player in the AFL-VFL competitions. Kevin Sheedy has brought AFL to Western Sydney, a traditional rugby league and football heartland, with unprecedented passion and enthusiasm. I want to congratulate Kevin Sheedy and the Giants for their efforts on and off the field and specifically mention the Gentle Giants program, which will deliver 500 hours of hospital and aged-care visits across the Western Sydney region. With the number of very talented young players in their ranks, I am sure the GWS Giants will be a force in the AFL competition in future. I am sure the local Western Sydney community will continue to gravitate towards the new club. Congratulations, Sheeds!
