I inform the House of the death on Tuesday, 18 June 2013 of Jean Isobelle Melzer, a former senator who represented the state of Victoria from 1974 to 1981. As I have had the pleasure of knowing Jean for many years in her capacity as a local constituent and through her son and daughter-in-law, I would like to put on the record my condolences to the family—Steve, Caroline and their daughter—and to recognise Jean's interesting time in this place and her contribution to it. As a mark of respect to the memory of Jean Melzer, I invite honourable members to rise in their places.
