Questions to the Speaker
Parliament House: Security

Madam Speaker, in light of recent exchanges in Senate estimates about surveillance in our workplace, I ask if you approve of, and/or have final say over, CCTV footage in the House of Representatives corridors being used for non-security related purposes, and can our rooms be searched at any time?

The member gave me notice of his question before question time. I will take the most part of that question on notice because it is a very serious issue. No, I do not have final say on my own; obviously that is a shared responsibility with the President of the Senate. But I can assure you that your rooms cannot be searched. I will take the question on notice and come back to you with an answer.
