On 8 June I had the privilege of attending the inaugural Richo Cup, which was held at Gannons Park in Peakhurst in my electorate. The Richo Cup was organised by the Forest Rangers Football Club and also Lugarno Football Club. It was held in memory of Matt Richardson, a Forest Rangers player who tragically passed away during a football match last year. The purpose of the day was to raise awareness regarding health issues and also to raise funds for defibrillators to be used at the 24 football clubs within the St George Football Association. There were more than 800 people there on the day. There was a huge crowd and lots of great games were played.
I would like to congratulate the winning clubs on the day and, in particular, the Lugarno Football Club and Forest Rangers for their tremendous efforts, especially John Taylor, the President of Lugarno Football Club, and Tony Karahalias from Forest Rangers. The day raised over $20,000 to help put defibrillators in local parks, and it was a great credit to all involved.
