My question is to the Prime Minister. On 24 July, Senator Canavan made a legal instrument which notified the government's intention to pull the trigger on gas export controls even though he was already aware he might be an Italian citizen. The next day Senator Canavan resigned from cabinet. Why did the government put the reservation of Australian gas for Australian households and businesses at risk of legal challenge when it was already fully aware there were problems with Senator Canavan?

The answer is that the government did not do so.
