The waves of demographic and economic change are eroding confidence in a just society, that is why young Australians deserve to be heard and that's what is at the centre of this government's budget. Part of the foundations of this budget is making sure that everybody who is a middle-income earner by 2024-25 will only be paying up to 32½c in tax. It's about making sure that we have a pathway of justice for young Australians so they will be able to secure their own future and their own dreams, by making sure that tax and reform which minimise their obligations are part of the system, which we are seeking to change for the future of the country.
What we have from our political opponents is political opportunism at every step, a complete disregard for the concerns of young Australians and a complete lack of understanding about the issues that affect them. When it comes down to making sure that they have the chance to be able to get on and live their own life and achieve their own dreams, you need a system that recognises reward for effort—an opportunity where people can keep the benefits of their effort and their time and their work, not a situation that simply seeks to tax them into their future, undermine their prosperity and leave them with a— (Time expired)
