My question is to the Prime Minister. Why did the Prime Minister tell the House on Thursday, about the Gaetjens inquiry, 'Those inquiries are being made by the secretary of my department', when the Prime Minister's former chief of staff has given evidence to the Senate today that he told the Prime Minister on 9 March—two weeks ago—that he was putting his inquiry on hold? Why did the Prime Minister mislead this parliament last Thursday?

I did no such thing. I've been very clear with this House that the conduct of this inquiry is a matter for the secretary, and he is conducting that inquiry at arm's length from me. I advise the House that last week he had not given me an update on when that report would be finalised and a time frame for that to be provided.
