My question is to the Minister for Indigenous Australians. Voice architect Professor Megan Davis wrote in the Monthly:
Treaties are about reparation for past injustices. How can these things be excluded?
… … …
… a Voice to Parliament is the first step, and treaty-making follows.
Will the Voice be entitled to provide advice on treaty and reparations?
Linda Burney (Barton, Australian Labor Party, Minister for Indigenous Australians) Share this | Link to this | Hansard source
I thank the member for Hume for his question. The Voice will be involved in giving advice on things that directly affect Indigenous people. That has been written, that has been spoken about and that is what will happen. I have outlined that the priorities that I have are health, education, jobs and housing. They are the issues that are raised with me repeatedly. The Voice is going to be a representative body that will provide advice on Indigenous Australians—provide advice.
