I am sure you are, Senator Brandis, you always listen carefully to what we have to say. This evening I want to focus on what I see as the main policy issues dealt with by the proposed amendments to the Disability Services Act 1986, the Social Security Act 1991 and the Social Security (Administration) Act 1999. These issues include contestability for vocational rehabilitation services, disabled access, restrictions to the pensioner education supplement and financial case management, the key issues that were addressed by the Senate Standing Committee on Employment, Workplace Relations and Education in its hearing on the Employment and Workplace Relations Legislation Amendment (Welfare to Work and Vocational Rehabilitation Services) Bill 2006. I want to make clear at the outset that the ALP supports welfare reform. It, in fact, encourages people to engage in further training through the use of positive incentives.
