I seek leave to amend general business notice of motion No. 162 standing in my name.

I move the motion as amended:

That the Senate—

(a)

notes the urgent and warranted pleas of National Seniors Australia and pensioners around Australia about the dire economic circumstances facing many older Australians; and

(b)

calls on the Treasurer (Mr Swan) to raise, as a priority measure, the single aged pension to reflect that the cost of living for pensioners is in excess of the consumer price index and that pensioners deserve immediate relief.
