I can confirm that discussions took place with departmental officials. I can confirm that I spoke to a deputy secretary. I can confirm that I made no observation about the actions of staff and, as the senator would well know, I am not going to comment on hypothetical discussions that may or may not have taken place between my staff and those in the department. I take the opportunity to remind those opposite that I have very clearly outlined that there is no conflict of interest between my chief of staff and his role.
