Australia has strongly opposed the DPRK's nuclear weapons program. As a member of the UN Security Council in 2013-14, Australia strongly supported the adoption of Resolution 2087 imposing sanctions on the DPRK for its 2012 missile tests. The government has called on international bodies, including the UN Security Council, to provide a strong response to North Korea's latest provocations. Australia is working to defeat Daesh through our major contribution to the international coalition to counter the terrorist organisation. This includes training, advice and assistance to the Iraqi security forces and airstrikes against targets in Iraq in Syria. The government supports the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal that Iran agreed with the P5+1. It increases our security by providing verifiable assurances that Iran's nuclear activities will remain exclusively peaceful and by ensuring that any attempt by Iran to pursue a nuclear weapon would be detected promptly.
