The opposition will not be supporting these amendments, for pretty much the same reasons as we did not support the earlier set. As I have already outlined, the Labor Party oppose optional preferential voting in principle, and accordingly we cannot support amendments that presuppose the existence of an optional preferential system. Whilst acknowledging that Senator Muir is attempting to ameliorate what is pretty obviously a fix, we will maintain our principle of not supporting an optional preferential system.
