The government does not support this amendment. The government has absolutely no plan to change the current system of enrolment and compulsory voting in Australia. Compulsory voting at federal elections was introduced in 1912 and has ensured that Australia has some of the highest civic participation rates in the world, with voter turnout of over 93 per cent at the 2013 election.
