Australian coal is some of the highest quality in the world, and we produce it more efficiently than most. Australia currently accounts for around four per cent of the world's thermal coal production. Australia's high-grade coal is environmentally better than sourcing coal from countries with lower-grade coal deposits in terms of energy content, ash content and other pollutants. Less Australian coal is needed to generate the same amount of energy, resulting in lower carbon emissions compared with coal from other countries.
