I seek leave to make a short statement.
Leave granted.
The government does not support the motion moved by Senator Lambie. The government condemns the hateful comments made by members of Hizb ut-Tahrir. There is no place in Australia for such disgraceful statements or the glorification of terrorism. There are a range of offences in the Criminal Code that target conduct which promotes or advocates extremism, including offences for advocating terrorism, and urging violence against groups or individuals on the basis of their race, religion or nationality. A decision to prescribe an organisation as a terrorist organisation under the Criminal Code Act 1995 is made on advice from our intelligence and security agencies, not by our parliamentary committee.
