Implications for students in providing this level of personal information to their providers were considered by the department, noting universities already collect and hold a range of personal and sensitive information about students. Division 179, 'Protection of personal information', of the Higher Education Support Act 2003 is clear about higher education provider obligations and procedures relating to the protection of personal information.
