Cyclone Larry

by leave—I, and also on behalf of the Leader of The Nationals in the Senate (Senator Boswell), the Minister for Ageing (Senator Santoro) and Senators Bartlett, Brandis, Hogg, Ian Macdonald, McLucas, Mason, Moore and Trood, move the motion as amended:
That the Senate—
- (a)
- notes:
- (i)
- the devastating impact that Cyclone Larry has had on the area of far north Queensland and the loss and hardship that this has inflicted on local residents, and
- (ii)
- with pride the tenacity and spirit of citizens in the affected region in rebuilding their communities;
- (b)
- expresses its appreciation for all the hard work of:
- (i)
- volunteers,
- (ii)
- emergency service workers, and
- (iii)
- Army personnel;
- (c)
- notes the generous financial assistance of:
- (i)
- members of public, and
- (ii)
- the business community;
- (d)
- welcomes the appointment of General Peter Cosgrove to head the relief operation;
- (e)
- shows its support for those Queenslanders affected; and
- (f)
- acknowledges the actions of state, local and federal governments in helping those in need and in rebuilding communities.
Question put and passed. All Australian Greens senators, by leave, recorded their votes for the ayes.
