I want to add to my response to the question asked by Senator Minchin, which I undertook to do. We are aware of the media reports referred to by Senator Minchin in relation to the situation in East Timor. The East Timorese government, the UN mission in East Timor and the international stabilisation force are currently in the process of ascertaining the full facts and details of the tragic events in Dili on the morning of 11 February—

As I was saying, we are in the process of ascertaining the full facts and details surrounding those tragic events. The Australian government will be very careful not to rush to judgement about the details of those events that morning until the full and final facts have been determined.
