At the request of Senator Bob Brown, I move:

That the Senate, following allegations in the Fairfax press about contractors used by subsidiaries of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), Securency International Pty Ltd and Note Printing Australia, calls on the Government to explain by Tuesday, 15 September 2009:

(a)

what the RBA, Austrade and the Government knew about the employment of arms trader Mr Abdul Kayum Syed Ahmad by Securency International Pty Ltd and Note Printing Australia to secure contracts in Malaysia;

(b)

when the RBA, Austrade and the Government were made aware of any issues with Mr Ahmad; and

(c)

what action each took in response to such information.
