I move:
That there be laid on the table by the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, by no later than 5 pm on 14 September 2018:
(a) all documents relating to the financial and logistical support to facilitate the vote held by the Viliwarinah Yura Aboriginal Corporation on 18 August and 19 August 2018 produced since the commencement of the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility site selection process; and
(b) all documents relating to setting up the administrative arrangements between the Australian Electoral Commission, the Flinders Ranges Council and the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, including the document entitled, 29 May 18 – AEC Contact May 2018, referred to on page 39 of the Flinders Ranges Council Agenda 12 June 2018 – Agenda Reports & Attachments.

The government is committed to ensuring that all key stakeholder groups that wish to have their voices heard in this process can do so. To this end, the department has agreed to pay for the two proposed ballots of the two communities around Kimba and the nearby station. These are standard procurement contracts on a fee-for-service basis. As this matter is before the courts, it would be inappropriate to comment further until such time as those proceedings are finalised.

The opposition will not be supporting this order for the production of documents motion today, for a simple reason: some of the documents that are sought relate to matters that are currently before the courts. We believe it would be inappropriate for these documents to be produced and, as a consequence, insert this chamber into a legal process that is currently underway.

The question is that motion No. 1025 be agreed to.
