I move:

That the Senate—

(a) notes that the 2020 Budget contains $28.3 million over three years from 2020-21 to establish five strategic basin plans to accelerate gas development in priority geological basins; and

(b) opposes the use of these public funds to expand the gas industry.

I seek leave to make a short statement.

Leave is granted for one minute.

Gas continues to be a key resource for all Australians. We must continue to strategically develop our gas resources, ensuring Australian industries have access to cheap, reliable gas. Access to cheap, reliable gas is a key part of the Morrison-McCormack government's economic recovery from COVID-19. Australia has vast reserves of untapped natural gas. Developing these resources required strategic planning. Once again, the Greens show their contempt of Australian industries and users.

The question is that motion No. 840 be agreed to.
