Yesterday marked one year since the Albanese Labor government was elected, and what a year it has been. I am so proud of what we have delivered for my community, cleaning up the mess left behind by the previous government. We have strengthened Medicare and lowered the costs of medicines. We have put nurses back into nursing homes and secured a 15 per cent pay rise for aged-care workers. I'm so proud to be a member of the party that respects workers. We've supported over 6,000 casual mine workers, many of which are in my electorate, by ensuring that they get the same long service leave as permanent workers. We are supporting families, with over $14 billion in cost-of-living relief delivered in this month's budget.
This is only a small sample of what we have delivered in our huge first year in government. We have much more to do. Every day we are in government is a privilege and we are not taking this opportunity for granted. I am getting on with the job and will keep working hard for everyone across the Hunter electorate, as we all will in this place. I look forward to rising in another year's time to celebrate even more accomplishments, more promises kept and more progress towards a better future for all Australians.
