I rise today to extend warm wishes to the Afghan committee in my electorate of Holt and beyond as they celebrate Nowruz, the Afghan new year. Nowruz is a time of renewable, hope and joy for millions around the world. As we welcome this auspicious occasion, let us reflect on the resilience and strength of the Afghan people both here in Australia and in Afghanistan. Despite the challenges they have faced, the Afghan community continue to enrich our society with vibrant culture, traditions and contributions in the fields of business, art, sport and others. Nowruz symbolises new beginnings, unity and triumph of light over darkness. It is a time of reconciliation, forgiveness and embracing the spirit of harmony.

To the Afghan community in my electorate and across the nation: I extend my heartfelt wishes for a joyous Nowruz. May this new year bring each and every one of you prosperity, happiness and peace. Let us celebrate the spirit of Nowruz with open hearts and minds, embracing the values of unity, tolerance and understanding. Nowruz Mubarak.
