by leave—I move the motion as amended:

That the Senate—

(a)

notes the recent release of the Report of the International Panel of Independent Legal Experts on: Special Permit (“Scientific”) Whaling under International Law on 12 May 2006 in Paris, and the report Slaughtering Science: The case against Japanese whaling in the Antarctic on 25 May 2006;

(b)

calls on the Government to urgently consider legal proceedings against this ‘unlawful’ whaling; and

(c)

notes the Government regards its continued strong diplomatic action as having the best chance of success.
