- That the Senate insists that Australia’s teachers, through their unions, be directly involved in formulating a national curriculum.

by leave—I wish to make a short statement with regard to the last vote. The Democrats do support teachers’ involvement in a national curriculum. In fact, we believe it is far preferable for teachers to be involved than for politicians to be involved. However, we would not want to see their involvement restricted to being through the unions, and that is the reason we voted against that motion.
