At the request of Senator Bernardi, I move:

That the Senate—

(a)

congratulates the 170 Australian Paralympic athletes and 121 officials, Australia’s largest ever overseas team, on their success and efforts in the recent Paralympic Games in Beijing; and

(b)

notes that the 2008 Australian Paralympic team brought home a total of 79 medals, including 23 gold, placing Australia fifth on the 2008 Paralympic Games medal tally.
