All seventeen recommendations have been referred to an interdepartmental taskforce established to facilitate a two-part green paper process on electoral reform. The taskforce comprises representatives from the Australian Electoral Commission, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Department of Finance and Deregulation.

The taskforce will review a wide range of electoral matters including those raised by the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters in this report. The taskforce’s deliberations will assist in the formulation of the Government’s final response.

It is anticipated that the Government’s final response will be tabled after the completion of the green paper process.
