by leave—I inform the Senate that earlier this afternoon the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Shorten, announced changes to the shadow ministry. As far as these changes affect the Senate, I advise that Senator Katy Gallagher will join the shadow cabinet as shadow Minister for Mental Health, shadow Minister for Housing and Homelessness, and shadow Minister Assisting the Leader on State and Territory Relations. These changes take effect from 1 November 2015. Can I take this opportunity to acknowledge the extraordinary role that Senator Jan McLucas has played over many years as a shadow minister and minister. I thank her for agreeing to continue to complete a number of tasks at the request of the leader. Senator Dastyari has been appointed shadow Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition, shadow Parliamentary Secretary for School Education and Youth, and Deputy Manager of Opposition Business in the Senate. There are also changes to arrangements relating to the representation in the Senate of shadow ministers in the other place. I seek leave to table the revised shadow ministry list and have it incorporated into Hansard.

Leave granted.
