Yesterday Ms Amanda Stoker was chosen by the Queensland Legislative Assembly to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator the Hon. George Brandis QC. I expect to be in a position to swear in Senator Stoker later in the day, when formal correspondence is received and certified by His Excellency the Governor-General. Senator Stoker's term of service commenced yesterday, and I note that this is the first time the Senate has had its full complement of 76 senators since the resignation of Senator Ludlam on 14 July last year. At 250 days, that represents the longest period the Senate has been incomplete since Federation.
