At the request of Senator Gallagher, I move:
That standing orders
18 and 58 be amended as follows, with effect from the day that Part 2 of Schedule 1 to the Parliamentary Workplace Support Service Amendment (Independent Parliamentary Standards Commission) Act 2024 commences:
18 (Privileges)
Omit standing order 18(1), substitute:
(1) A Committee of Privileges shall be appointed at the commencement of each Parliament to inquire into and report on:
(a) matters of privilege referred to it by the Senate;
(b) right of reply submissions referred to it by the President under privilege resolution 5; and
(c) serious breach findings referred to it by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Commission.
58 (Business of the Senate)
At the end of standing order 58, add:
(f) a motion for the adoption of a report from the Committee of Privileges on serious breach findings referred to it by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Commission.
